My life was hard to manage and it was mostly becuz 
I had become powerless over alcohol and drugs
Lack of sobriety led to lack of sanity
But God brought me back to reality 
I surrendered to God and accepted His will
For my life then a better way of livin' was revealed 
Even as I examined my past takin' moral inventory 
I confessed my faults to God and I even shared my story 
With someone who had experiences that were similar 
Then I asked God to remove my defects of character 
And my shortcomings too, I've been improvin' 
Correctin' wrong I've done in my life, makin' amends
It is a process to correct my regrets
But I'm makin' progress with every fault I confess 
Stayin' in contact with God concerning everything 
Grateful I was able to have spiritual awakening

My history previously discouraged me, now I'm confident 
Feelin' better than I could on any drug they could invent 
I got sober and been holder of my composure ever since 
I'm convinced being angry enslaved me mentally 
I don't miss how it tricks people to live miserably 
So I've been forgiving people for wrong they did to me 
And quit excusin' my usin' by blaming people ignorantly 
It wasn't easy for me to forgive and be merciful 
Even when I wasn't guilty, was treated like criminal 
But forgiving individuals ain't for their benefit
Cuz holdin' onto grudges used to make drugs hard to quit
